Why does the UK have more CCTV cameras than the rest of Europe put together?
Especially in light of the fact that a senior police officer today said they don't work in reducing crime?
Because it's all part of the UK becoming a Big Brother state where it is assumed that you have or will break the law, rather than remain innocent until proved guilty.

Apparently to protect the people…well Germany has less cameras and lower crime.
Maybe to keep tabs on you

Because they are cheap, when compared to having actual officers on the beat that would actually make a difference.
Cheap as chips to put up hundreds of camera's up then pay cheaper labour to watch them. But of course, they dont work .. but that doesnt matter, all they care about is the money, not the people.

They don't reduce crime but they help to solve crime.

The purpose of any police state is never to reduce crime against the common person as it is the crime that makes the people desparate enough to sell their souls to the government for protection. The cameras serve other purposes, reminds them of the crime, and lets people know big brother is watching.
