“Every Step You Take” Trailer - CCTV in Britain Documentary
Further info: www.EveryStepYouTake.org
With an estimated four million surveillance cameras, Britain is by far the most-watched nation on earth. How could this come about in George Orwell’s mother country? Why haven’t other nations copied the schemes if they really are as successful as the Home Office and the police are saying? Is there a real effect in crime reduction or has CCTV only been introduced for the people’s ‘peace of mind’? Are there any vested interests in the proliferation of CCTV?
Trying to answer questions like these, the investigative documentary “EVERY STEP YOU TAKE” digs deep into an entirely British phenomenon: nation-wide video surveillance. It features formal interviews with police chiefs, CCTV managers as well as experts in the fields of surveillance research and data protection. Investigative research uncovers secrets that will make every responsible Briton worry.

I’ve been filing …
I’ve been filing Freedom of Information requests for just over a year now on Big Brother. I urge others to as well. You just may discover as I did the number of policies, procedures, (Ontario) provincial guidelines and legislation Big Bro violates. Worst, you may find as I did, that no elected official or entity had ever looked into Big Brother’s conduct and operations.
You may also discover that your Mr. “If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear” balks at public scrutiny.

U can’t go anywhere …
U can’t go anywhere now without looking over your shoulder wondering whether there is a CCTV camera looking at you. I was at my local bus stop today and it had signs all over saying that you were being monitored on CCTV. You go to shops and it says ’smile you are on camera’. It gets me paranoid, even though I have done nothing wrong.

The cameras were a …
The cameras were a good idea but the current government is destroying our trust in the system!!!
I welcomed them! I regret that now…
A police officer on the street will stop me getting stabbed.. A CCTV camera will only record it if its pointing in the right direction & not into someones window!

They wouldn’t allow …
They wouldn’t allow that Stigmata for reasons of national security. Personally, given the choice between a gun-free surveillance society and an unmonitored society that allows weapons I’d choose the later any day of the week. I don’t trust politicians with our welfare. Humans have been the same species since history was recorded and there is tremendous potential for abuse when you strip people of the right to bear arms, protest, and live private lives.

Actually you don’t, …
Actually you don’t, happenedto me. Most british police are quite friendly to drunks (seen as how they deal with them ALL the time). They told me just to take it easy next time. I wasn;t mugged, just followed as I was staggering bit.
They picked me up to check i didn’t need a hospital visit.

Use CCTV to identify the people involved, through Police databases or local crimewatch schemes, and ensure justice is administered? Common sense really.

What could will the police do after youve been mugged or beaten?
December 22nd, 2008 at 10:36 pm

I personally like to know that there’s someone out there watching me ready to call in the police after I’m walking home after drinking a little too much and an easy target for muggers or youths…
