How effective do you think CCTV cameras are?

errrr…..thanks for that mandysbrother, I should warn other people that they might not want to follow the link though.

About as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Have you tried identifying someone from the footage - they mostly look like something from a picasso painting.

The only thing they're good for is keeping tabs on the mass population. Like the guy having a crafty puff on a cigarette on a railway platform - WOW - high crime indeed!!

Couple them with every other piece of surveillance that this Government wants to introduce and you get the bigger picture - watch all of the people all of the time.

Vehicle tracking system or wireless CCTV?

Hi, I'm looking for a device that can track my fleet. I"m suspecting my driver of some wrongdoing like carrying other people's goods without permission.

I'm living in Indonesia, so I don't think normal GPS tracking device will work here since Google earth and other mapping system do not have a complete map of the area. But I'm willing to listen to any suggestion.

Or maybe there is a spycam or security camera that I can monitor from the internet. Since I'm delivering goods to other states (over 100-200km) away, is there any wireless security camera that can work that far?

I'll listen to any suggestions. Thanks

GPS units come in two formats. One, is real time monitoring which usually costs a monthly fee on top of the equipment purchase. You can see stops as they happen over the internet. Second, key loggers. A small device is placed on the vehicle then at the end of a day (or week depending on the unit) you retrieve the gps and plug it into a computer to see each of the timed logged events. Do some google searches and learn about it. And GPS is worldwide from what i understand because satellites are above the earth.

What does it take to catch a thief with CCTV security cameras?

Can You Catch a Thief? Wireless or wired spy gadgets were invented to catch spies. But at home and in the workplace, these wear many hats. The stuff is popular for catching abusive nannies at home and errant workers in the workplace. In both places, the devices are also used to monitor all entries and exits. In public areas, CCTV security cameras sweep the vicinity for any suspicious activities to alert the police.

I think the best for you is to read this entire article which is exactly about: What Does it Take to Catch a Thief with CCTV Security Cameras?

pls, I have CCTV but I want to be viewing the cameras anywhere I am in the world through internet?

pls, can anyone enligthen me on how i am going to connect the cameras to internet viewing system

You need an Ip camera or standard cctv camera & IP video encoder.
You then need an ADSL line, or a means of directly connecting to the internet.
If the camera / encoder supports dynamic addressing, away you go with just a bit of network knowhow.
If the camera / encoder doesn't support dynamic addressing then you need an ADSL line with fixed IP address.
That way you know the address to input into your web browser software.

Multiple Operating Systems?

Hi, I've been asking some questions about getting programmes to run on Vista that were designed to run on XP and everything's worked apart from one. I've been looking online everywhere for a copy that Vista supports but there's nothing (it's a program called Peaqe - it's used for monitoring my CCTV cameras). I think that the best way to go forward is to partition the hard drive, having most of it as Vista and a small amount as XP for this one program to run (and potentially others).

I've been searching online at how to install multiple OS but everyone's talking about installing Linux and it doesn't help. I'd be really greatful if someone could please tell me how to do this and also possibly recommend a good partitioning program?

P.S. I don't want to have to format my hard drive.

Thanks :)
The best way to do this in this case (because you do not want to mess with partitions) would be to run XP in a virtual machine and run the program you need to in it. Windows XP will run in a small window on Vista.

Why are there no CCTV cameras mounted on Heathrow's runways to monitor take-offs and landings? Or are there?

All the approaches and major ground movements, are monitored, by the CAA and the DOT.

Home CCTV and how to record, at a lower price?

Hi, guys

Looking for one wireless camera system capable of connecting to my pc. Require to record during the night, say 7 hours every day and can save it on my 500G hard drives.

I am going to installing in downstair and PC is on the 2nd floor. Is that a problem? I am running my PC over the night and shut down when in the morning.

Anyone recommends a type of camera and the problem is what software and hardware I can use to connect between camera and PC ? how can I record it?

Please let me know the price

Cheers

If you are in the UK, i was in Aldi today and they had the full package, can't remember the price - but Aldi always seems to be cheaper than anywhere else.

I'm sorry you feel the need to use CCTV - what a crappy world we live in.

Hope this helps!
